DAY
AND NIGHT TOURS IN THE CITY
1. Full day
City and Canal Tour (Time: 7 hrs)
Enjoy the day visiting the most attractive and interesting sites of Panama
City. See the ruins of Old Panama City that were destroyed by Pirate Henry
Morgan in 1671. Then to the Colonial City or "Casco Viejo",
built in 1673. Visit the unique Panama Canal Inter Oceanic Museum where
artefacts related to the Panama Canal are on display. Lunch at a prestigious
typical Panamanian restaurant.
After lunch, visit the modern city. Visit the enchanted Balboa area, the
residential area of the Panama Canal Zone, reverted to Panama. Visit the
handicrafts market.
Continue to Miraflores Locks where you will have a chance to see the vessels
while transiting. Watch the audio-visual prepared by the Panama Canal
Commission, where the operation of the Canal is explained.
Light clothes, comfortable shoes, and sunscreens are suggested.
2. Half-day
City and Canal Tour (4 hrs)
A half-day tour will give you a good insight of Old Panama, Colonial Panama
and Modern Panama. Walk around Old Panama City, destroyed by Pirate Henry
Morgan in 1671; buy souvenirs at the handicrafts market located there.
Continue to the Colonial area through the cobbled streets, plazas and
public parks, France Plaza, Las Bovedas, San Jose Church, with its altar
made of Gold, the Flat Arc and others.
Continue to the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal where if you are
lucky you will see the vessels while transiting.
3. Folkloric
Night Show and Dinner (3 hrs)
The native Indian groups created their acoustic instrument using parts
of plants and shells of different animals, then the Spanish conquerors
brought their influence from the Old World. The Afro-Caribbean also contributed
to the culture, when they came for the Canal construction. All gave birth
to what is today, one of the most attractive and folkloric heritage of
Latin America.
Come see the show that is fully allegoric with typical acoustic music
and musicians. The women wear the unique "Pollera", a hand made
cotton dress complimented with body and head jewellery. The men are attired
in handmade hats and cotton shirts that boast golden or pearl buttons.
Watch this show while tasting the excellent Panamanian cuisine.
Comfortable light casual clothes are suggested.
4. Chiva
Parrandera Night Tour (Partying Bar-hopping Bus) (4 hrs)
If you enjoy meeting new friends, music and having drinks; visiting interesting
places and need to release stress this tour is for you. Begins at 7:45pm.
This partying bus is designed specifically to carry a Murga Band (typical
Panamanian band), that plays Latin and Salsa Music, in its rear seats.
All other seats have a bar system that holds glasses and bottles. Enjoy
the open bar with the Rum and Seco (a Panamanian alcoholic drink) included
in the tour. Visit the main attractive areas of the city while you drink,
dance and meet new friends.
Comfortable light clothing suggested.
CANAL
TRANSITS
1. Ocean
to Ocean Canal Transit (10 hrs)
Hotel pick up and transfer to the Balboa Port to embark the vessel. The
first part of the journey takes you into the Miraflores Locks of the Panama
Canal. Experience how your ship is raised up to 54 feet in a two step
process. This activity is achieved by sending water from Pedro Miguel's
Lake by gravity to fill the chambers where the ship is locked. Once the
first set of locks is transited, the vessel gets into Pedro Miguel's locks
to be raised up to 85 feet. Again no water pumps are used. Gravity is
used to transfer water from Gatun Lake, which is higher, to fill the last
chamber of the Pacific side. Then the ship transits the Gatun Lake, (once
the biggest man made in the world) until reaching Gatun Locks on the Atlantic
side. Here the ship is lowered to sea level using the same system, however
instead of filling the chambers they will be emptied in a three-step process.
The journey ends in Christobal where transportation will take you back
to your hotel.
Tour includes breakfast, drinks, lunch and transfers and guides.
Light clothes, insect repellent, hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes
are suggested.
2. Partial Canal Transit (5 hrs)
This tour gives the visitor the opportunity to transit only one set of
locks, the Miraflores Locks. The ship will turn back when it gets into
the Pedro Miguel's Lake. Return to Pier 18 where you transportation will
depart for hotel.
Tour includes breakfast.
Light clothes, insect repellent, hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes
are suggested.
